Parking

Parking spaces intended for use by people with disabilities must be indicated by two painted parallel vertical stripes on the ground, along with an access aisle next to the space marked off with painted diagonal stripes.

Car Accessible Spaces must have the following minimum dimensions:

• Width of parking space: 96"
• Width of access aisle: 60"

Van Accessible Spaces must have the following minimum dimensions:

• Width of parking space: 96"
• Width of access aisle: 96"

All parking lots MUST have at least one van-accessible parking space. If there is only one disabled parking space, it must be van-accessible.

After March 15, 2012, the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT has mandated the following: A vertical sign that displays the Symbol of Accessibility - 60 inches high - is required in front of each car and/or van-accessible parking space.

Van-accessible spaces must have an additional sign stating “Van-accessible” below the vertical sign that displays the symbol of Accessibility.

Exterior/Interior Path of Travel

The minimum clear width of an accessible route, to the entrance and to the Lottery products, must be at least 36 inches and free of all obstructions blocking the path of travel.

Curb Ramps

The width of a curb ramp, exclusive of side flares, should be a minimum of 36".

A curb ramp must not have a slope greater than 1:12. For every 1 inch of vertical rise, there must be 12 inches of horizontal run.

Sales Location

Scratch-Off Vending Machines (SOVM) and PlayCentral Terminals (PCT), along with on-counter terminals must have clear floor space in front of the machine or sales counter of at least 30" wide and 48" deep.

Additionally, for SOVM/PCT locations, any button, switch coin slot, bill changer or any other device used to operate the machine must be no higher than 54" above the floor.

The maximum height of an outside sales window is 36" from the ground to the sales counter.

Entrances

Minimum of 32" of clear opening width for all entrances.

Non-automatic doors, on both the push and pull sides, must provide clear floor space of at least 18" - 24", on the latch-side of the door.

Swinging doors are measured with the door open 90 degrees from the face of the door to the opposite stop.

The minimum space between two hinged or pivoted doors in a series must be 48" plus the width of any door swinging into the space.

The height of thresholds at doorways must not exceed 1/2". Doors must be able to be opened with a closed fist.

The door hardware must be no higher than 48" above the ground.

Exterior and Interior Ramps

The minimum width of a ramp must be 36".

The slope of a ramp should not exceed 1:12 (1 inch of rise for every 12 inches of horizontal run).
Ramps must have level landings at the top and bottom of each segment and at each change in direction.

Landings must be at least as wide as the ramp segment leading to them with 60" of clear floor space perpendicular to the doorway.

For every 30 feet of a ramp a level landing must be provided.

If a ramp has a rise greater than 6" or is longer than 72", it must have handrails on both sides.

Handrails should be mounted so that they are between 34" and 38" above the ramp surface.

Handrail gripping surfaces must have a diameter of 1-1/4" to 1-1/2".

If handrails do not extend the entire segment of the ramp, they must extend at least 12" beyond the top and bottom of each ramp segment and must be parallel with the floor or ground surface.
