PA Lottery Powerball Ticket Worth $1 Million Sold in Northampton County

Middletown – One winning Powerball® ticket worth $1 million from the Feb. 19 drawing was sold in Northampton County. Meanwhile, last night’s $425.3 million Powerball jackpot – the game’s fourth-largest – was won by one ticket sold in California.

The ticket sold in eastern Pennsylvania correctly matched all five white balls,  01-17-35-49-54, but not the red Powerball 34, to win a $1 million second-tier prize, less 25 percent federal withholding.

Stefko Mini Mart, 1907 Stefko Blvd., Bethlehem, earns a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

The prize must be claimed and the ticket validated before the winner can be identified. Pennsylvania Lottery Powerball winners have one year from the drawing date to claim prizes.

The Lottery encourages the holder of the winning ticket to sign the back of the ticket, call the Lottery at 717-702-8146 and file a claim at Lottery headquarters in Middletown, Dauphin County, or at any of Lottery’s seven area offices.

Claims may be filed at headquarters Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at area offices.

More than 172,800 other Pennsylvania Lottery Powerball tickets won prizes in the Feb. 19 drawing. Players are reminded to always check their tickets.

This Powerball jackpot run began on Dec. 28, 2013, and continued 16 draws before ending last night. During the run, more than 773,000 Pennsylvania Lottery Powerball players won a total of more than $9.4 million in prizes, which includes four $1 million prizes.

The Pennsylvania Lottery has sold 17 jackpot-winning Powerball tickets since joining the multi-state game in 2002; the most recent one occurring in the June 22, 2013, drawing. That jackpot had a $131.5 million annuity value. A Delaware County woman claimed it on July 30, opting for a $77.4 million cash prize.

The Powerball jackpot reset to an estimated annuity value of $40 million, or $22.8 million cash, for the Saturday, Feb. 22, drawing.

In the 2012-13 fiscal year, the Pennsylvania Lottery awarded nearly $41 million in prizes to Northampton County winners and contributed more than $24 million to programs serving the county’s older residents.

How to play Powerball: Players pay $2 and select five white balls from the first set of 59 numbers plus a single red ball, the Powerball, from a second set of 35 numbers. Players may select their own numbers using a Powerball playslip, or they may opt for computer-selected quick picks. Players must match all five numbers drawn plus the Powerball number to win the jackpot. There also are eight additional ways for players to win a cash prize.

Powerball is sold in 43 states, Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

About the Pennsylvania Lottery: The Pennsylvania Lottery remains the only state lottery that designates all its proceeds to programs that benefit older residents. Since its inception in 1971, the Pennsylvania Lottery has contributed nearly $23.7 billion to programs that include property tax and rent rebates; free transit and reduced-fare shared rides; the low-cost prescription drug programs PACE and PACENET; long-term living services; and the 52 Area Agencies on Aging, including full- and part-time senior centers throughout the state.

The Pennsylvania Lottery reminds its players to play responsibly. Players must be 18 or older.
