PA Lottery Powerball Ticket Worth $1 Million Sold in Allegheny County
Middletown – One Powerball® ticket worth $1 million for the Saturday, May 24, drawing was sold in Allegheny County.
The ticket correctly matched all five white balls, 15-16-28-49-55, but not the red Powerball 18, to earn a $1 million second-tier prize, less 25 percent federal withholding.
Super Stop Convenience Store, 430 Kenmawr Ave., Rankin, receives a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
It was a week of big winners for the Pennsylvania Lottery. One Mega Millions® ticket won a $149 million jackpot on Tuesday, May 20. It was sold at White Oak Gas & Grocery on Fawcett Avenue in White Oak, Allegheny County. Then, a $1 million prize-winning Powerball ticket was sold for the May 21 drawing at In & Out Food Store on DeKalb Street in Bridgeport, Montgomery County.
The May 24 Powerball prize must be claimed and the ticket validated before the winner can be identified. Pennsylvania Lottery Powerball winners have one year from the drawing date to claim prizes.
The Lottery encourages the holder of the winning ticket to sign the back of the ticket, call the Lottery at 717-702-8146 and file a claim at any of Lottery’s seven area offices or at Lottery headquarters in Middletown, Dauphin County.
Claims may be filed Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at area offices and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at headquarters.
More than 37,800 other prize-winning Powerball tickets were sold statewide for the May 24 drawing. Players are urged to check every ticket, every time.
The Powerball jackpot grew to an estimated annuity value of $152 million, or $89.6 million cash, for the Wednesday, May 28, drawing.
The Pennsylvania Lottery awarded more than $231.3 million in prizes to Allegheny County winners and contributed more than $127.9 million to programs serving the county’s older residents in the 2012-13 fiscal year.
How to play Powerball: Players pay $2 and select five white balls from the first set of 59 numbers plus a single red ball, the Powerball, from a second set of 35 numbers. Players may select their own numbers using a Powerball playslip, or they may opt for computer-selected quick picks. Players must match all five numbers drawn plus the Powerball number to win the jackpot. There also are eight additional ways for players to win a cash prize.
Purchasing the $1 Power Play option allows a winner to increase lower-tier prizes by a factor of 2, 3, 4 or 5, depending on the Power Play number drawn. The jackpot and the Match 5 prize are not multiplied. The Match 5 prize with the Power Play option is worth $2 million. It is $1 million without Power Play.
Powerball is sold in 43 states, Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In Pennsylvania, tickets are sold until 9:59 p.m. on drawing nights, Wednesday and Saturday.
