Powerball Power Play Variable Multiplier is Back
Enter ‘Ultimate Tailgate Party’ Drawing by Feb. 3
Middletown – Back by popular demand, the Powerball Power Play® variable prize multiplier returns with the Wednesday, Jan. 22, drawing, the Pennsylvania Lottery said today.
The multi-state Powerball game previously used a variable multiplier for Power Play, but a set lower-tier prize structure was adopted in January 2012.
Starting with the Jan. 22 Powerball drawing, a separate drawing will be performed to select the Power Play number – 2, 3, 4 or 5 – for all prizes except the jackpot and the Match 5 prize. With Power Play, the Match 5 prize is worth $2 million.
Effective Jan. 19, players were again able to purchase up to 13 weeks (26 draws) of advance-play tickets for Powerball. Advance play for Powerball was temporarily limited in the weeks leading up to the game change.
Powerball’s ticket price will remain $2, and the price of purchasing the Power Play option will remain unchanged at $1.
Until Feb. 3, Pennsylvania Lottery players making a $10, single-ticket Powerball purchase can enter to win a trip to the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s 50th Anniversary Fan Festival and exclusive Ultimate Tailgate Party.
Through an online VIP Players Club drawing at www.palottery.com, 29 winners will be selected to attend the celebration from May 1-5, 2014, in Cleveland, Ohio. Winners may each take along three guests.
Players may enter once for each qualified purchase. The entry deadline is Feb. 3.
How to play Powerball: Players pay $2 and select five white balls from the first set of 59 numbers plus a single red ball, the Powerball, from a second set of 35 numbers. Players may select their own numbers using a Powerball playslip, or they may opt for computer-selected quick picks. Players must match all five numbers drawn plus the Powerball number to win the jackpot. There also are eight additional ways for players to win a cash prize.
Purchasing the $1 Power Play option allows a winner to increase lower-tier prizes by a factor of 2, 3, 4 or 5, depending on the Power Play number drawn. The jackpot and the Match 5 prize are not multiplied. The Match 5 prize with the Power Play option is worth $2 million. It is $1 million without Power Play.
Powerball tickets are sold in 43 states, Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
