Pennsylvania Lottery Adjusts Cash 5 Starting Jackpot

4/18/2020
Middletown, PA – The Pennsylvania Lottery today announced changes to its Cash 5 game. Starting today, April 18, 2020, after the Cash 5 jackpot is won, the game’s minimum jackpot will be determined by the Lottery on a drawing-by-drawing basis. The change is in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has resulted in reduced sales for Lottery’s traditional games, including Cash 5.

The Cash 5 jackpot change is necessary to ensure that ticket sales can support the jackpot. New starting jackpot amounts will be announced on the Lottery’s website, palottery.com, following each Cash 5 jackpot win.

“Many Lottery players in the Commonwealth are staying at home, and as can be expected, this is affecting lottery game sales,” said Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko. “Just as other businesses are forced to make adjustments during this time of uncertainty, the Pennsylvania Lottery also has to make changes in order to ensure that our games continue to generate funding for the vital programs that Pennsylvania seniors rely on.”

Lottery players are also reminded that they have the option of playing PA Lottery online games at pailottery.com. This is another place where players can buy their Powerball® and Mega Millions® tickets without having to leave their homes. This is also an option for players to continue supporting older Pennsylvanians during this challenging time.

The Lottery is reminding players to please play responsibly. Players must be 18 or older and for those who may have a gambling problem to call 1-800-GAMBLER or visit www.pacouncil.com.

How to play Cash 5: Players pay $1 and select five numbers from 1 to 43. Players may select their own numbers using a Cash 5 playslip or opt for computer-selected quick picks. Players must match all five numbers drawn to win the jackpot. Players also win prizes for matching two, three or four winning numbers. Cash 5 is drawn each evening and tickets can be purchased up to seven draws (one week) in advance. Chances of winning the jackpot prize are 1 in 962,598; the overall chances of winning any prize are about 1 in 10.5.
