Pennsylvania Lottery Drawings Offer Players Chance to Win $1 Million on National New Year’s Eve TV Show

8/18/2021
Middletown, PA – The Pennsylvania Lottery and officials with Powerball® today announced the Pennsylvania Lottery’s Second-Chance Drawing for the Powerball® First Millionaire of the Year℠. This Second-Chance Drawing offers players in Pennsylvania the opportunity to win several prizes, including $1 million in a drawing occurring on Jan. 1, 2022 shortly after the ball drops at midnight during the live television broadcast of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest. The winner will be named the “Powerball First Millionaire of the Year” for 2022.

For the Second-Chance Drawing, between now and September 23, 2021, Pennsylvania Lottery players may enter any winning or non-winning Draw Game tickets purchased in-store from a licensed PA Lottery retailer: PICK 2, PICK 3, PICK 4, PICK 5, Treasure Hunt, Cash 5 with Quick Cash, Match 6 Lotto, Cash4Life®, Powerball®, Mega Millions® and Keno. Fast Play and Xpress Sports games and any Draw Game tickets purchased online are not eligible for entry into this Second-Chance Drawing.

“For a third year in a row we are proud to have the opportunity to give our players a chance to be named Powerball’s first millionaire of the year,” said Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko. “Partnerships and Second-Chance drawings like this one allow the Lottery to fulfill our mission of generating funds that pay for vital programs that benefit older Pennsylvanians.”

The Pennsylvania Lottery is one of nearly 30 U.S. lotteries participating in the Powerball First Millionaire of the Year promotion. Here is how the drawing will work:
  • Forty semi-finalists in the PA Lottery Second-Chance Drawing and 10 semi-finalists in a separate Online Prize Drawing will be selected to win a $2,022 cash prize and be entered for a chance to win $1 million after midnight on Jan. 1, 2022.
  • Five finalists from all semi-finalists submitted by lotteries nationwide will be selected to participate in a drawing for $1 million that will take place during the broadcast of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest.
  • The five finalists will receive the Celebrate@Home prize package, which includes a $10,000 cash prize and a New Year’s Eve at home party. The party package includes food and beverages, a premium electronics package including a 70-inch TV, sound-system, laptop and other accessories.
  • The five finalists will participate remotely from home in the drawing for a chance to win the “Powerball® First Millionaire of the Year” $1,000,000 cash prize during the live broadcast of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.
The separate PA Lottery Online Prize Drawing will take place between September 1 and September 26, 2021. It will allow Draw Game tickets purchased online to be eligible for entry for a chance to win the prize packages mentioned above. Purchase amounts of $2 or more of Powerball®, Mega Millions® and Cash4Life®; and purchase amounts of $1 or more of Treasure Hunt online may be entered for a chance to be named the “Powerball First Millionaire of the Year” for 2022.

“Last year, it was an exciting moment for Pennsylvania when the nation got a chance to watch Sara Bosh of Beaver County, who was one of the five finalists who appeared on the popular TV show for a chance to win $1 million. She won that semi-finalist spot after participating in the PA Lottery Online Prize Drawing,” added Svitko.
Entry dates and requirements vary by participating lottery. Enter tickets as soon as possible after play and please play responsibly. Mailed or late entries are not accepted. Games will remain for sale after the second-chance promotion ends.
