The winners, Tom and Mae Elliot of York County, who have been married for 36 years, say they purchased the winning ticket on Sunday, November 6, 2022.
“It all started when I went to go fill up the van with gas,” said Tom. “Then, I took my wife out to a nice lunch and remembered I had a $90 Lottery voucher. So on our way home, we stopped by the pizza place and I told the owner to give me two tickets.”
Tom said he waited to scratch the tickets until he arrived home and when he did, he called on his older son to check the ticket.
“I got a ‘Wish’ and scratched more. I looked again and couldn’t believe my eyes!” said Tom. “I yelled to my son to come over. He thought I was mad at him. Then he saw it and was shocked.”
“I lost my eyesight this year and Tom lost his mother back in January,” said Mae. “Then we lost our youngest son in August. This money doesn’t bring them back, but it’s something good that happened to us this year.”
Tom, who said he works as a tool and die maker, added that he plans to meet with a financial advisor to plan how to spend this prize.
“Congratulations to our newest millionaires, Tom and Mae,” said Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko. “Our Scratch-Offs make great gifts for the holiday season, but it’s important to remember that players must be 18 and older. We also encourage the public to play responsibly, as they enjoy our entertaining games.”
The PA Lottery Scratch-Off, We Wish You a Merry Million, went on sale on October 25, 2022, and is a $20 game that offers top prizes of $1 million. This game is also featured in a second chance to win on the Pennsylvania Lottery’s
#sELFie Second-Chance Drawing, which includes qualifying Fast Play and Draw Game tickets. That Second-Chance Drawing ends on January 5, 2023.
To determine if they have won a prize, players can review the ticket, scan it at a Lottery retailer or use the ticket checker feature on the Lottery’s
Official App. Winners should immediately sign the back of the ticket, call the Lottery at 1-800-692-7481 and make an appointment to file a claim at the nearest
Lottery office.
Prizes must be claimed and tickets validated before winners can be identified. Scratch-Off prizes expire one year from the game's end-sale date posted at
