PA Lottery Cash 5 Prize Worth $225,000 to Expire Sept. 13 - Unclaimed, Jackpot-Winning Ticket was Sold in Pittsburgh

Middletown – Time is running out for the holder of a jackpot-winning Cash 5 ticket worth $225,000 from the Sept. 13, 2011, drawing to claim the prize.

The ticket and prize will expire one year from the date of the drawing.

“Unfortunately, about 1 to 2 percent of all Lottery prizes go unclaimed,” said Lottery Executive Director Todd Rucci. “An unclaimed ticket of this large amount is very rare, and we would hate to see this become part of the statistic.”

The soon-to-expire Cash 5 ticket correctly matched all five numbers drawn, 11-15-20-32-43, to win $225,000, less 25 percent federal withholding. It was sold at Giant Eagle Market District, 100 Settlers Ridge Center Drive, Pittsburgh.

The Pennsylvania Lottery encourages the ticket-holder to sign the back of the ticket, call the Lottery at 717-702-8146 and file a claim by Sept. 13 at Lottery headquarters in Middletown, Dauphin County, or at any of Lottery’s seven area offices. Claims may be filed at headquarters Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., and from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at area Lottery offices.

Unclaimed, expired lottery prizes remain in the Lottery Fund and are used to support programs benefiting older Pennsylvanians. In the 2010-11 fiscal year, the Pennsylvania Lottery contributed nearly $123.6 million to programs that benefit Allegheny County’s older residents.

How to play Cash 5: To play Cash 5, players pay $1 and select five numbers from 1 to 43. Players may select their own numbers using a Cash 5 playslip, or they may opt for computer-selected quick picks. Players must match all five numbers drawn to win the jackpot. Players also win prizes for matching two, three or four winning numbers. Cash 5 drawings are held seven nights a week, and tickets can be purchased up to seven draws (one week) in advance. Odds of winning the jackpot prize are 1-in-962,598; the overall odds of winning any prize are about 1-in-10.5.

About the Pennsylvania Lottery: The Pennsylvania Lottery remains the only state lottery that designates all its proceeds to programs that benefit older residents. Since its inception in 1971, the Pennsylvania Lottery has contributed more than $22.6 billion to programs that include property tax and rent rebates; free transit and reduced-fare shared rides; the low-cost prescription drug programs PACE and PACENET; long-term living services; and the 52 Area Agencies on Aging, including full- and part-time senior centers throughout the state. The Pennsylvania Lottery reminds its players to play responsibly. Players must be 18 or older.
