PA Lottery’s Cash 5 Jackpot Rises to $1 Million
Middletown – The Pennsylvania Lottery’s Cash 5 jackpot rolled to $1 million following the March 14 drawing. This is the first time since August 2011 that the Cash 5 jackpot has reached $1 million.
The jackpot has been growing since the Friday, March 9, drawing, when one ticket matched all five numbers to win a prize of $520,997.50, less 25 percent federal withholding.
Tickets for tonight’s Cash 5 drawing can be purchased until 6:57 p.m. The drawing will be held at 6:59 p.m.
The largest Cash 5 jackpot since the game’s 1992 debut was $1,867,253, from the April 15, 2008, drawing, and it was split between two winners. The largest Cash 5 jackpot to be awarded to one winner was $1,685,206, from the April 19, 2011, drawing.
So far in 2012, five Cash 5 jackpots have topped $500,000. The largest jackpot since the year began was $727,647 from the Jan. 24 drawing, divided between two winning tickets for prizes of 363,823.50 each, less 25 percent federal withholding.
How to play Cash 5: To play Cash 5, players pay $1 and select five numbers from 1 to 43. Players may select their own numbers using a Cash 5 playslip, or they may opt for computer-selected quick picks. Players must match all five numbers drawn to win the jackpot. Players also win prizes for matching two, three or four winning numbers. Cash 5 drawings are held seven nights a week, and tickets can be purchased up to seven draws (one week) in advance. Odds of winning the jackpot prize are 1-in-962,598; the overall odds of winning any prize are about 1-in-10.5.
