Record Match 6 Lotto Jackpot Worth Over $7.3 Million Won at Long Last

Middletown – After a historic jackpot run that began in mid-May, the Pennsylvania Lottery’s Match 6 Lotto jackpot – worth a record of over $7.3 million – has finally been won by a single ticket sold in Cambria County.

The lone jackpot-winning Match 6 ticket for the Oct. 3 drawing was sold at Nic’s Tobacco, 2608 Bigler Ave., Northern Cambria. The store receives a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

It matched all six numbers drawn, 08-10-15-21-35-42, to win a game-record prize of $7,375,082.50, less 25 percent federal withholding.

Lottery officials cannot confirm the identity of the Oct. 3 Match 6 jackpot winner until the prize is claimed and the ticket is validated. Match 6 winners have one year from the drawing date to claim prizes.

The Lottery encourages the holder of the winning ticket to promptly sign the back of the ticket, call the Lottery at 717-702-8146 and file a claim at Lottery headquarters in Middletown, Dauphin County, or at any of Lottery’s seven area offices.

Claims may be filed Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lottery headquarters and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at area offices.

The Match 6 jackpot had been growing since one ticket matched all six winning numbers in the May 13 drawing. This jackpot run lasted 41 draws.

The game’s previous record was a $6.9 million prize won in the March 23, 2007 drawing.

Match 6 Lotto continued to produce millions of winners while the jackpot kept growing. For the entire run, nearly 4.5 million winning tickets won a total of more than $24 million in prizes.

In last night’s drawing, more than 199,400 Match 6 Lotto tickets won non-jackpot prizes totaling over $738,300 -- including 65 tickets that each won $1,000.

Older Pennsylvanians who benefit from programs funded by the Pennsylvania Lottery also came away as winners in the record jackpot run, which generated more than $12.5 million in profits to support benefits for older adults.

The odds of winning the Match 6 Lotto jackpot are roughly 1-in-4.6 million, among the Pennsylvania Lottery’s best odds of winning a multimillion-dollar jackpot.

In the Pennsylvania Lottery’s last fiscal year, Match 6 Lotto’s average advertised jackpot was approximately $1.1 million. It reached $2 million or higher only 15 times.

In the 2011-12 fiscal year, in addition to awarding nearly $36.9 million in prizes to Cambria County winners, the Pennsylvania Lottery contributed more than $16.8 million to programs serving the county’s older residents.

How to Play Match 6 Lotto: Match 6 tickets cost $2 each. Players can choose six numbers from 1 to 49 or have numbers randomly selected by computer. The computer will then randomly select an additional two sets of six numbers, for three lines of six numbers each or 18 numbers total. Players can win up to four times on each ticket – once on each of three lines (base play) and by combining all 18 numbers (combined play).

Match 6 Lotto drawings are held on Monday and Thursday evenings.
