Powerball Tickets Worth $1 Million Each Sold in Eastern Pennsylvania
Jackpot Grows to $208 Million for Jan. 21

Middletown – Before the Powerball® jackpot rolled to $208 million for the Wednesday, Jan. 21, drawing, two Powerball tickets worth $1 million each from the Jan. 17 drawing were sold in eastern Pennsylvania.

Each winning ticket correctly matched all five white balls, 15-16-23-27-36, but not the red Powerball 09, to win individual prizes of $1 million, less 25 percent federal withholding.

The retailers that sold the winning tickets will each receive a $5,000 bonus: 

• Giant Food Store, 2450 Chemical Road, Plymouth Meeting, Montgomery County; and
• Double-O-Seven Convenience Store, 2655 S. Seventh St., Philadelphia.

Lottery officials cannot confirm the identity of either winner until each prize is claimed and each ticket is validated. Pennsylvania Lottery Powerball winners have one year from the drawing date to claim prizes.

The Lottery encourages each holder of a winning ticket to sign the back of the ticket, call the Lottery at 717-702-8146 and file a claim at Lottery headquarters in Middletown, Dauphin County, or at any of Lottery’s seven area offices.

Claims may be filed at Lottery headquarters Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at area offices.

More than 44,300 other Pennsylvania Lottery Powerball tickets also won prizes in the Jan. 17 drawing, including 9,409 tickets that multiplied their prize by two because they purchased Power Play.

The Powerball jackpot grew to an estimated annuity value of $208 million, or $142.7 million cash, for the Wednesday, Jan. 21, drawing.

In fiscal year 2013-14, the Pennsylvania Lottery awarded a total of more than $411.7 million in prizes to winners in Montgomery and Philadelphia counties. The Lottery also contributed more than $297.6 million to programs that benefited older residents of both counties.

How to play Powerball: Players pay $2 and select five white balls from the first set of 59 numbers plus a single red ball, the Powerball, from a second set of 35 numbers. Players may select their own numbers using a Powerball playslip, or they may opt for computer-selected quick picks. Players must match all five numbers drawn plus the Powerball number to win the jackpot. There also are eight additional ways for players to win a cash prize.

Purchasing the $1 Power Play option allows a winner to increase lower-tier prizes by a factor of 2, 3, 4 or 5, depending on the Power Play number drawn. The jackpot and the Match 5 prize are not multiplied. The Match 5 prize with the Power Play option is worth $2 million. It is $1 million without Power Play.

Powerball is sold in 44 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In Pennsylvania, tickets are sold until 9:59 p.m. on drawing nights, Wednesday and Saturday.
