PA Lottery Presents Commemorative Check to Winner of $800,000 Cash 5 Jackpot

Lackawanna County winner, father of two, purchased the big winning-ticket on Father’s Day

Jermyn, PA – Officials from the Pennsylvania Lottery and Convenient Food Mart today presented a commemorative check to the winner of a recent $800,001 Cash 5 jackpot. The check presentation was held at the Convenient Food Mart in Jermyn, Lackawanna County where the jackpot-winning ticket was sold. The store receives a $5,000 bonus for selling the big winner.

The winner, John Klein of Lackawanna County, who is also a dad, bought the winning ticket on Father’s Day.

“The timing was awesome!” said Klein, who owns J.K.’s Kitchen & Design Center. “I didn’t even know I had won. My girlfriend called me and said, ‘Someone won, you bought it on Father’s Day.’ I checked and it was the fifth ticket! It said it was a winner, I was screaming!”

“We are extremely excited to congratulate John for his big Cash 5 jackpot,” said Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko. “More than 46,800 other Cash 5 tickets also won prizes from that same drawing. Loyal players like John and many others help the Lottery fulfill its mission of generating funds for older Pennsylvanians.”

The jackpot winning-ticket was sold for the Monday, June 17, 2019 drawing and matched all five balls drawn, 11-13-27-30-41, to win $800,001, less withholding. Klein says he plays those numbers every week.
“We just broke ground on a new home, so this money came at the right time!” added Klein.

Cash 5 is the Pennsylvania Lottery’s longest-running jackpot game. It was launched as a weekly game on April 23, 1992. It became a nightly drawing in 1998. The televised drawing is conducted at 6:59 p.m., seven nights a week.

Earlier this year, Luther Coleman Jr., a Columbia County man, won a $2.4 million Cash 5 jackpot, which is the game’s all-time high jackpot. Players are reminded to check every ticket, every time.
