PA Lottery Presents Commemorative Check to Winner of $3 Million Holiday-themed Scratch-Off Sold in Washington County

11/18/2022
Canonsburg, PA – Officials from the Pennsylvania Lottery and Sheetz, a Lottery retailer, today presented a commemorative check to the winner of a recent $3 million holiday-themed Scratch-Off ticket called $3 Million Snow Bank. This holiday ticket is the first $30 ticket to ever join the Lottery’s holiday Scratch-Off lineup of games. The check presentation was held at Sheetz, 2401 Washington Road, Canonsburg, Washington County, where the winning ticket was sold. The store receives a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

The winner, Kim Maurer of Allegheny County, said she was shocked to learn she won this top prize.

“I scratched it and said, ‘Wait.’ I looked away and said, ‘Maybe I’m not playing this ticket right,’” said Maurer. “I didn’t know what to do! I went back into the Sheetz and scanned it. It read, ‘You won $3 million, contact the Lottery.’ I scanned it again. I couldn’t breathe!”

Maurer said this win comes at a perfect time.

“I work a lot. I have two full-time jobs as a retail manager,” said Maurer. “One of the stores where I work is closing soon.”

The prize gives Maurer a chance to dream a bit bigger, especially around the holidays.

“I already found my dream home and I’m on my way to go look at it now!” said Maurer. “I get excited when I win $100. This is beyond awesome!”

“Congratulations to our newest millionaire, Kim, on her prize. This is the first time that the Pennsylvania Lottery launched at $30 Scratch-Off over the holidays, and it’s nice to see there are big winners already,” said Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko. “This is also a great opportunity to remember that not only is Kim a big winner, but so are the older Pennsylvanians who benefit from the vital programs the Lottery funds.”

“Our entire Sheetz family joins the Pennsylvania Lottery in congratulating Kim on her $3 million win,” said Ryan Sheetz, Vice President of Marketing and Brand at Sheetz. “At Sheetz, our focus is on giving back to the communities and customers we serve, and we are always thrilled when one of them becomes a big winner. This winning lottery ticket continues a streak of good luck for our Pennsylvania customers, who have won nearly $142 million in cash prizes at our stores this year. Each of the nearly 300 Pennsylvania Sheetz locations offer customers lottery terminal-based games as well as a variety of instant lottery games 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”

The PA Lottery Scratch-Off $3 Million Snow Bank went on sale on October 25, 2022, and is a $30 game that offers top prizes of $3 million. This game is also featured in a second chance to win on the Pennsylvania Lottery’s #sELFie Second-Chance Drawing, which includes qualifying Fast Play and Draw Game tickets. That Second-Chance Drawing ends on January 5, 2023.

To determine if they have won a prize, players can review the ticket, scan it at a Lottery retailer or use the ticket checker feature on the Lottery’s Official App. Winners should immediately sign the back of the ticket, call the Lottery at 1-800-692-7481 and make an appointment to file a claim at the nearest Lottery office.

Prizes must be claimed and tickets validated before winners can be identified. Scratch-Off prizes expire one year from the game's end-sale date posted at palottery.com. All lottery prizes more than $5,000 are subject to applicable withholding. Visit palottery.com to review rules, chances of winning and learn how to play our traditional and online games.
