Q: What is Double Play?

A: Double Play is a new optional add-on feature to the main Powerball game that offers an additional chance to win a prize up to $10 million, using the same numbers selected for the main Powerball game.

Q: How much does it cost to add Double Play?

A: Selecting the Double Play option adds $1 to each Powerball play.

Q: How does Double Play work and when will the Double Play drawing occur?

A: If the Double Play option is added, the numbers you selected for the main Powerball game will also apply to an additional drawing. The Double Play drawing will occur immediately following the Powerball drawing where an additional set of five numbers from 1 to 69 (the black ball numbers) and one number from 1 to 26 (the Double Play Powerball number) will be drawn. The first drawing will be held on Monday, August 23, 2021, following the Powerball drawing.

Q: Will the Double Play drawing be broadcast?

A: No, Double Play drawings will be recorded at the Florida Lottery drawing studio and video will be posted to Powerball.com at the conclusion of the drawing.

Q: Will there be two different sets of numbers on my ticket?

A: No, you will only ever have one set of numbers, even if Double Play is added, and the Lottery will draw two sets of numbers for each individual drawing. You will play the same numbers in the main Powerball drawing and the Double Play drawing. You cannot select your own numbers or Quick Pick numbers for the Double Play drawing individually.

Q: Can Powerball tickets with the Double Play add-on feature be eligible to win prizes in both the Powerball drawing and Double Play drawing?

A: Yes, Powerball tickets that include the Double Play add-on feature can win a prize in both the Powerball drawing and Double Play drawing. Powerball winning numbers shall not be used to determine Double Play prizes. Double Play winning numbers shall not be used to determine Powerball prizes.

Q: Does Double Play affect Power Play?

A: No, Double Play is an optional add-on to the Powerball game and does not replace or alter the main Power Play game. Double Play prizes cannot be multiplied or increased by the drawn Power Play multiplier.

Q: Will the Power Play add-on feature apply to prizes won in the Double Play drawing?

A: No, the Power Play add-on feature will only apply to non-jackpot prizes won in the Powerball drawing. Double Play prizes cannot be multiplied or increased by the drawn Power Play multiplier.

Q: Can a Powerball ticket include both the Power Play add-on feature and Double Play add-on feature?

A: Yes, a Powerball ticket can include both add-on features for a total price of $4 per play. You may elect to purchase one or none of the add-on features. Here are some sample tickets and purchase examples:

Q: What are the chances of winning a prize in the Double Play drawing?

A: Because Double Play utilizes the same numbers selected for the main Powerball game (five numbers from 1 to 69 and one number from 1 to 26), the chances of winning a prize in the Double Play drawing have the same chances of winning as the Powerball drawing.

Q: Will my old playslips still work?

A: No, you must replace your old playslips as they will not work as of August 23, 2021. New playslips are available at all retailers. The new playslips have a new layout to add the Double Play option on the front and a full description of the new game feature on the back.

Monday Drawing FAQs:

 

Q: When will Powerball® hold its first Monday draw?

A: Powerball will hold its first Monday drawing on August 23, 2021 at 10:59 p.m. (ET). This will increase the number of drawings from two to three nights a week: Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

Q: Why is Powerball moving to three draws a week?

A: To meet our players’ expectations, Powerball is increasing the number of drawings from two to three nights a week. The additional ticket sales for a third weekly drawing are expected to generate larger, faster-growing jackpots on a weekly basis.

Q: Is the Powerball change happening only in Pennsylvania?

A:  No, the change to three drawings a week is being done across all jurisdictions that sell Powerball. The decision was made by MUSL (the Multi-State Lottery Association) and affects Powerball in Pennsylvania and any other jurisdiction where Powerball is sold.

Q: How do you purchase a ticket for the Monday drawing?

A: Ticket sales for Monday drawings will be no different than sales for the current game drawing dates. Sales end at 9:59 p.m. on drawing nights.

Q: How do I view the Monday drawing?

A: Monday drawings will be broadcast live at 10:59 p.m. (ET) from the Florida Lottery draw studio and will be available to view on your local station. Powerball drawings on Wednesday and Saturday nights will also continue to be broadcasted live. The Monday drawing will also be live streamed on Powerball.com, and recorded video of the drawing will be available to view on Powerball.com.

Q: Will the matrix for the Powerball game change with the additional drawing?

A: No, you will still select five numbers from 1 to 69 and one number from 1 to 26. Or, if you’d like, choose the Quick Pick option to have the computer randomly select your numbers for you.

Q: Does the additional drawing change my chances of winning a Powerball prize?

A: No, you will still have the same chances of winning a Powerball prize. Chances of winning a Powerball prize can be found here.

Q: Can I still buy future draws?

A: Yes, but the number of future draws available will update from 26 to 20 beginning August 22, 2021. You can select the number of future draws you wish to play, if any. With three draws a week, 20 advance draws will now cover just over eight weeks.

Q: Is the REPLAY feature still available?

A: Yes, REPLAY is a fast and easy way for you to replay the numbers on an existing ticket starting with the next draw.
