Cheswick, PA – Officials from the Pennsylvania Lottery and Willy’s Beer & Beverage, a Lottery retailer, today presented a commemorative check to the winner of a recent $1 million Scratch-Off ticket called $1 Million? Seriously. The check presentation was held at Willy’s Beer & Beverage, 1343 Freeport Road, Cheswick, Allegheny County, where the winning ticket was sold. The store receives a $5,000 bonus for selling the big winner.

The PA Lottery Scratch-Off $1 Million? Seriously went on sale on April 18, 2023, and is a $20 game that offers top prizes of $1 million. The lucky winner, 56-year-old Kimberley Adamik of Allegheny County, said she had been a longtime player of the PA Lottery and was shocked to learn she had won $1 million.

“I’ve been playing [the Lottery] for 35 years and have never won anything like this before,” said Adamik. “I scratched the ticket at the store and scanned it. The store owner asked me if I hit the big one, and I said, ‘You tell me.’ She started screaming when she saw how much it was.”

Adamik said she purchased the ticket on June 22 and claimed it on the 27th.

After confirming her big win, Adamik said she told her parents about the great news. “I took a picture of the numbers on the scanner at the store and showed them. My mom was shocked, and my dad was tearing up. He never thought he would see a million-dollar ticket. Everyone is very excited for me.”

Adamik said she would continue working her full-time sanitation job and plans to use her prize money to fix up her home and build a fence for her rescue dog, Haley, to run in her yard.

“It’s all still settling in for me,” added Adamik. “I plan to keep up my regular routine. “It will be nice to pay bills and get the fence for my dog.”

“It’s so nice to hear about longtime players like Kimberley winning big,” said Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko. “This is also a great opportunity to remind everyone that our Lottery continues to be the only state Lottery that generates funding solely for programs that benefit older residents. Those programs deliver property tax and rent rebates, free meals, transportation, prescription assistance, and much more. Thanks to players like Kimberley, and retailer partners like Willy’s Beer & Beverage, the Lottery is helping seniors across the Commonwealth every day.”

“This was a nice surprise for our small business,” said Linda Wilson, owner of Willy’s Beer & Beverage. “It goes to show winning tickets can show up anywhere, and anyone has a chance to win. Our sincerest congratulations to her!”

Scratch-Offs are distributed at random, meaning the Pennsylvania Lottery and its retailers do not know where winning tickets will be sold. The Lottery learns where winning tickets are sold only after a prize has been claimed.

To determine if they have won a prize, players can review the ticket, scan it at a Lottery retailer or use the Ticket Checker feature on the Lottery’s Official App. Winners should immediately sign the back of the ticket, call the Lottery at 1-800-692-7481 and file a claim at the nearest Lottery office.

Prizes must be claimed, and tickets validated before winners can be identified. Scratch-Off prizes expire one year from the game's end-sale date posted at palottery.com. All lottery prizes more than $5,000 are subject to applicable withholding. Visit palottery.com to review rules, chances of winning and learn how to play our traditional and online games.
