PAL Winner – Oliver G.
Oliver Golden of Northumberland County and PA Lottery Eastern Regional Sales Manager Craig Rogan.

Mount Carmel, PA – Officials from the Pennsylvania Lottery and Friendly Choice Food Mart, a Lottery retailer, today presented a commemorative check to the winner of a recent $1,000 a week for life Scratch-Off ticket called THE GAME OF LIFE™. The check presentation was held at the Friendly Choice Food Mart, 11639 East State Road 61, Mount Carmel, where the winning ticket was sold. The store received a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

The PA Lottery Scratch-Off, THE GAME OF LIFE™, went on sale on May 16, 2023. The $10 game’s top prize offers the choice between an annuity option of $1,000 a week for life, or a one-time cash option of $1.04 million. The lucky winner, 26-year-old Oliver Golden of Northumberland County, said he purchased the ticket on February 21 and selected the annuity option.

“I stopped in that store to buy a friend a drink and felt inclined to buy a ticket. It’s my favorite board game,” said Golden. “When I checked the ticket with the scanner, I thought it was broken because I saw all of the zeroes!”

“I thought I was going to pass out. I was like, ‘This is crazy,’ and called my friend saying, ‘Thanks for asking me to go buy you a drink because now I’m a millionaire!’” said Golden.

Golden, a college student who enjoys photography, said he’s still in disbelief.

“I almost fell over and thought I was going to cry!” he said. “I think I’ll use the money to go to Disney World and Ireland!”

“It’s always exciting to celebrate our Lottery winners, like Oliver, who won $1,000 a week for life on THE GAME OF LIFE™ Scratch-Off,” said Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko. “The Pennsylvania Lottery is the only Lottery in the U.S. that dedicates all of its proceeds to programs that benefit older adults, and it’s all thanks to our players and retailers across the Commonwealth. Proceeds generated from Lottery pay for things like free meals, free transportation, and property tax and rent rebates.”

“March is also Problem Gambling Awareness Month, and we want to remind the public that players must be 18 or older and to please play responsibly,” added Svitko.

The Pennsylvania Lottery supports this national awareness effort to promote responsible play. If you’re not sure if you or a loved one may be suffering from a gambling-related harm, here are some warning signs.
If gambling is a concern for you or someone who you care about, please call 1-800 GAMBLER (800-426-2537) for free, confidential assistance. Help is available 24 hours a day. You can also visit the Council on Compulsive Gambling of Pennsylvania online.

Scratch-Offs are distributed at random, meaning the Pennsylvania Lottery and its retailers do not know where winning tickets will be sold. The Lottery learns where winning tickets are sold only after a prize has been claimed.

To determine if they have won a prize, players can review the ticket, scan it at a Lottery retailer or use the Ticket Checker feature on the Lottery’s Official App. Winners should immediately sign the back of the ticket, call the Lottery at 1-800-692-7481 and file a claim at the nearest Lottery office.

Prizes must be claimed and tickets validated before winners can be identified. Scratch-Off prizes expire one year from the game's end-sale date posted at palottery.com. All lottery prizes more than $5,000 are subject to applicable withholding. Visit palottery.com to review rules, chances of winning and learn how to play our traditional and online games.
